Last day in Perth before heading back home to the UK
Oh well, here we are. Almost three weeks on and we’ll be leaving the beutiful country of Australia to travel back to the UK tomorrow afternoon at 4pm Aussie time.
Well probably spend our last day at Kings Park before heading back home to watch the sunset at about 7pm. Then it’ll be time to eat whats left of the food in the fridge.
We had the brother-in-law, his missus and their son over to stay from Sydney in the past week. They really enjoyed the laid back lifestyle of Western Australia although they were surprised how expensive property had become.
The view from the ‘East side’ seems to be that you can still pick up properties for £50,000.
Now although you may be able to do this in the outback the number of Immigrants moving to the west coast is slowly starting to push prices upwards.
Take Sorrento and Hillarys for example. The number of $1 Million + houses being build and sold is staggering although even for these properties, similar properties in Sydney would cost you 4 to 5 times this amount.
Having said all this, compared to the UK, what you get for your hard earned money over here is significantly better. A house of ‘mansion’ proportions could still be yours for under £200,000 if you had this sort of cash to hand.
I think we’ve made the best of our time here in WA. We’ve got a really good feel for the different suburbs, we’ve identified a school for our son. We’ve got a good feel for house prices and what we’ll get for our cash. From a work perspective I’ve also met with a number of recruiters who’ll I’ll continue to keep contact with when I get back to the UK.
I’ve also taken hundreds of picks which I’ll upload to the site when we get back later in the week.
For now, more updates when we get back to the UK. Just a short 20 hour flight and we’ll be back in Blighty. Oh joy!

My wife and I migrated here 2002 from Edgware, London.We lived initally in Duncraig and then built as so called ‘mansion’ as you guys call it in Harbour Rise Hillarys.
Just wanted to say its a nice place for young kids upto the age of 19 and people over 28..reason is Perth has a massive problem retaining 19 -28 year olds..they get bored here there is not much to do.
To be honest as you have only been here on holiday and not long term …..lifestyle is great but we are the most isolated city in the world – the nearest city to us is somewhere in Indonesia !!! However if you enjoy the bush then there’s loads of that. Plus asia is a stones throw away. Else we have 2 museums, 1 x Aquarium, 1 x Adventure World (Water Park) and millions of Coffee shops !!! We do get stuck when vsitors arrive and to take them to places other than the Aquarium.
Overall I didn’t like it much here initally but once our house was built and we moved in ….all changed !!! I can’t see myself moving back to the UK, Perth seems to get better by the day.
I think you guys will love it..especially if you live on the coastal stip (left of Marmino Ave).
Duncraig is OK – I know you like it but there are loads of ‘Hoons’ who drive around day and night doing dounuts and driving very very fast !!! Sorrento, Hillarys, North Beach, Whitfords, Mallaloo etc…are great areas. Anyway I guess it what YOU make of it your self that matters…..overall Perth gets a 7/10 from me for life style and weather. Have you guys checked out Brisbane ???? i’ve never been but I have heard from many people its the place to be. Brisbane attracts the most migratants in Australia. Anyway enjoy …its 34 degrees today !!..wow hoo.

Understand your point about being a good place for young kids. Who knows in 16 years time (when my son will be 19) Perth may be a completely different place. Either way I understand what you mean about the isolation.
Interesting comment about Duncraig, we never really saw any of that when we were looking around Duncraig but alas, you’ve lived there so I’ll certainly take your comments on board
We’ve not settled on Duncraig although it was one of our preferred areas, however anywhere around Sorrento/Hillary’s will also do us just fine.
We’ll probably rent the same beach house or similar for a month or so when we get back to Perth and continue our proper search for a more permanent residence.
In the meantime we’ll continue our research.
